Jan 11, 2014 16:46

This is your one-stop spot to find an SME!
What is an SME, you ask? Well, SME stands for Subject Matter Expert. SMEs are fan resources who have detailed knowledge about a particular subject area and have volunteered to share that knowledge with writers (and artists) who need help with that topic in their fic (or art).
Sound interesting? ( More details and how to sign up and find SMEs under the cut )

Areas of Expertise:1. General British stuff - you want to check that a character sounds convincingly British or what they're referring to is genuinely from the UK, no problem! You want me to describe in detail the architecture of the train stations in a specific city? That's probably a no ( ... )

Areas of Expertise: 1. Aquarium/animal knowledge - I've worked most closely with penguins but know a bit about sharks, snakes, turtles, alligators, frogs, birds, fish, octopus, crabs, and otters. While not a diver I've talked to a lot of them and know a little about what it's like to be under the water like that, though my knowledge of the working parts of scuba are a little shady. How pumps and water quality and other things work is not my strong suit but I know enough to get by.
2. Working in guest relations at said aquarium. I have stories, man, let me tell you.
3. Working in environmental education for a non-profit at said aquarium.
4. Children's literature.
5. Living next to a major river and one of the geographic dividing lines between the north and south
6. Bookstore shenanigans.

Areas of Expertise: archives/how to do historical research; British history 18th-20th cent, especially politics, and a fuzzier grasp of Western European history for the same period; I live in London, happy to comment on transport/geography or pretty much anything else about the city; general Britpicking; can read French well enough to know if something's broadly grammatical but can't outright translate
Preferred contact Method (comment, PM, email): PM please!
