Frustration Abounds

Mar 11, 2012 00:11

I am totally and completely stalled, which I completely can not afford to be because I am juggling more Big Bangs than is good for me (heh, that sounds like it could be more fun than it is). I spent most of today staring uselessly at my computer screen!!!

at an impasse )

epic panicking flail!, kripked again

Who cares if you're doing your own take on something the show did one way, especially since it's an idea you camd up with on your own? Your story will just be AU as of the end of Season 5. Nothing wrong with that. People write AUs all the time, and hundreds (if not thousands) of writers give their own takes on the same basic ideas, and it's all okay because everyone approaches the same ideas differently.

So don't get discouraged, don't stress over being Kripked, and write the story you want to write! I am sure it will be awesome and many people will enjoy reading it!

In my head I know this is true, I mostly write AU's so it's very familiar ground, and I understand there's no reason why the fact the show picking-up on something should affect what I have in mind, especially when they are so impossibly different (from my understanding) that there really is no room for reader-confusion. I think the fact that I did get Kripke'd (Gamble'd?) is just stressing me out because of all the general BB frets, and I've been distracting myself with niggly little thoughts and letting them win over my common sense.

Thanks for the support! It's good to hear, and the support is a lovely kick in the pants!!! (which I really need at this point).

I completely agree with the above comment; I've always felt like writing fic was a chance for authors to give their own personal take on a show they love, whether that fits into canon or goes completely AU doesn't really matter. Since you were so excited about the idea, I'm sure its a great one and what's important is that you take a chance on it!
I, and I'm sure others, would definitely love to read it :)

Thanks so much, I needed to hear that and hopefully I can put that encouragement to good use and get something written today. I hope people do read (and that I do finish) and enjoy!!! *fingers crossed*

I love au's, both for writing and for reading. The idea that it could've gone that way instead is a fascinating one. It doesn't matter what show's doing, or that they've come up with the same monster. People still write vampires, werewolves and ghosts into their own stuff and those have definitely been done on show. So go ahead--write.

As for the jumble of fears. Yup. Been there. It sucks.

In the end, though, the important thing is that you are proud of what you've written.

Very true, on all counts. I'm still suffering a bit from my fears but it's a new day and I'm trying to be optimistic about it. If it's another day of staring at the screen I am turning the screen off and typing blind. I am determined to make some kind of progress!!!

My very first big bang (and, consequently, my first SPN fic ever) was an AU after Season 3. Ruby had a starring role as one of the good guys, and all of a sudden, the show throws Sam drinking demon blood at us and her being evil, and I wanted to cry. It took me weeks to finally start writing again.

Tl;dr, people like AUs. They LOVE AUs. Don't stop writing just because show did something similar to your idea, because I'm sure your idea is different and fresh and awesome :D
