I'm.... BLAH. (Well, doesn't help that I've been feeling icky since yesterday.) RL issues coming into play but then on the fic front I just can't seem to get anything written! I started seriously thinking yesterday about starting something completely new - even if it was something short - because I'm having so many issues. >.
I have like... idek! Ideas-but-not? I don't know hooooow it got to this. (I blame schoolwork. It's dumb as hell and I'd just like my license 'cuz I'm fed up with my department.) But yeah - either I write and get inspired to keep with one of my major WiPs or I get a new story :D I'd just like to finish one, y'know? o.0
I totally second what wondersound said. If writing something new gets you past your writer's block and general feelings of blah-ness, then by all means go for it! I've frequently found that to be a great way to get unstuck while working on longer fic!
Hope you feel better soon and best of luck with your writing!
Yes, yes, you can DEFINITELY turn in your word count status / results early if you need to. If we don't have a check-in post up by the time you need to go out of town, just PM slightlysatanic or me and we'll be sure you get your word count logged so you get the award you deserve!
Congrats on getting 2K written in this week, and hope your Sunday writing plans go swimmingly!
I've written about 500 words since I checked in on the Hiatus Olympics, but I think I've lost the will to go on. I gave my fic to a friend to read and let me know what she thinks - and I haven't heard from her since. That was over a week ago.
You know, I wouldn't put any stock in how long it takes for a friend to respond. As someone who is currently guilty of having massively overdue beta duties--it doesn't mean your writing isn't fun or exciting or good, sometimes it just means your alpha or beta reader has a bit much on ther plate. :)
Don't give up, keep going! You can totally do it. If you're stuck at this point in your story, try picking up on another scene. Work on a different story for a while to get your creative inspiration flowing again. Work on brainstorming, outlining, or other fun things related to your story rather than trying to slog through it if you're stuck. There are lots of tips and tricks to get yourself motivated.
And if you just don't like where your story's going, it's not too late to change your story! Nothing is set in stone at this point and there is PLENTY of time to get it done. We have TWO whole months before the first draft is due (and the first draft can be rough and doesn't need to be edited or beta'd at ALL). So don't give up!
Co-signed on the beta thing - I know I was guilty of being last-minute last year as I'm sure you remember! I actually haven't heard back from one of my betas in, mmm...a really long time, haha! I'm a little concerned, but then I remember that there are some that I'm procrastinating on as well, so...I guess I'll just hope she hasn't forgotten??
You can probably check in with them. I've owed someone beta stuff for like... a month, and owed something TO one of my betas for that long (*hides*). A polite "hey how's it going" is usually a good way to get a read on what's going on. I fully expect to be called out by the people I owe things to!
