DAY 98, Early Morning

Dec 30, 2012 22:57

Ken was awake far too early. He’d gone to bed shortly after leaving Gunter the day before, which meant a great deal of resting. Which was good. He wanted to rest. He washed up and changed in a pair of clothes before heading out. He didn’t notice the rolled parchment that had been tucked under his door and stepped right over it, nor could he find ( Read more... )

Jennifer was an early riser by nature, so even though she'd had a fairly late night she was up and at it fairly early. She got ready as stealthily as she could, in case Shou-chan was still asleep. She knew where the training grounds were, fortunately, but she wanted extra time to work something out about getting practice swords. Little did she expect that Ken would already be there by the time she managed to procure the closest to fencing rapiers they had. They still felt distinctly more real than anything she'd used, and she was a little concerned that they wouldn't have all the safety gear--but it was just a light first lesson, so she thought they would make do just fine. The weight was light enough, at least, by her estimation. Between getting the swords and eating a little breakfast, it wasn't so early any more once she got to the training grounds, but it still seemed like some of the castle had yet to awake ( ... )

Ken turned at the sound of his name and offered a hesitant wave back. She did come! He felt relief that he hadn't been brushed aside or forgotten and stood up to meet her. "Morning," he said. "Um, no. Not too long. Thank you for coming."

"I'm glad!" She smiled, shifting one sword's hilt into the other hand. "Of course I came! I promised, after all."

She held out one of the blades to pass it to him carefully, so that he could grab the hilt. She was a little disappointed that the only practical ones had simple hilts, since her favorite rapier back home had quite the impressive design on its hilt. But, for practice it was certainly better. "Let's see if the weight of this is okay, before we start!"

"R-right..." She did promise, but promises were easy to break. He smiled back a bit, happy that so far no such thing had happened.

He took the blade carefully, gripping the hilt maybe a little too tightly out of nervousness. He'd never actually held a sword before. It was quite a bit heavier than the dagger Julia had been training him with. He bit his lip, unsure how he was to determine if the weight was okay. "I guess it's not too bad...?" he ventured.

Gunter awoke in a strange bed, though it only took him a moment to remember it belonged to that guard. He was alone and he got himself together before heading to the fields. He didn't plan on interfering, but he did want to watch from a distance a little. He didn't want to be a distraction to their practice.

He managed to be a bit of a distance away, and simply watched their practice for a bit.

(notice him whenever, he's just sitting up on a hill watching the goings on :D)

Wrapped up in thinking about where to start with on the next part of the lesson, she didn't notice anyone's eyes on them. "When you attack, you want to move your whole body, not just your sword arm. Well, with a heavier weapon like this, you need to be careful not to put too much..." she broke off, noticing Ken looking off to the side. She followed his gaze, but all she saw was someone sitting a ways off. Maybe it was someone he knew, and he wanted to go say hi? She wouldn't be opposed to a little break for that! "Is everything alright?" she asked.

"Hm? Oh..." He tried to turn his attention back to the lesson. Though now he felt anything he did was going to be judged, and he felt awkward and small and clumsy and stupid with someone else watching. He tried to tell himself it was just Gunter, but it didn't help. He lowered his sword with a sigh. "Yeah. It's fine."

He raised a hand and waved at their audience. Might as well invite him over. "That's Gunter. He wanted to meet you. Is that alright?"

She relaxed out of stance and turned to look at Gunter. Oh, that was the name of the foreign model who had been all the rage a while back! And he looked the part, even from a distance.

"Of course it is!" She smiled and waved in his direction, too.
