Ken backtracked down the stairs, taking them slowly so Jennifer wouldn’t trip up in the long dress. “I don’ t think it rains here much,” he said, trying be conversational, though his voice caught a little and it was probably obvious he wasn’t used to it. “I’ve only seen it twice. She heard some voices in the distance, wondering if it was about time for the dinner rush, but she really didn't pay them much attention. She had a few questions for Gwendal about the filtration system, but saw a lot of water outside his room as she went past. She figured he was doing something strange and let it go. If he didn't have any maryoku today, then he would probably be extra grumpy. She could find him tomorrow.

It was a bit of a disappointment to find the dining room empty, but she was interested in the silhouette out on the balcony. "Welcome to Shin Makoku. I am Anissina von Karbelnikoff. I trust that Ken has been showing you around properly?"
She recognized the dress and wondered if they had the same type of fashion in that world. Or if by some chance she happened upon it here. It was rather stormy and it would be expected to change if one was drenched.

He shifted his gaze away from the rain when he heard someone else enter the dining area, and froze up when he saw who it was. He only managed a squeaky whimper as he shifted his seat back (though what he planned to do, he didn't know. Stand. Retreat. Just sit there. No idea. For now, just sit there seemed to be the best option.)

She trailed off when she heard the quiet noise Ken made and the sound of his chair moving. She was about to ask him what was the matter before her eyes fell on the figure who had just entered the dining room. There was no mistaking it--that was her son, alright! She hopped out of her seat in an instant, standing and waving to him, her arm moving in a wide half circle as she called out, "Yuu-chan! Yuu-chan!" more loudly than necessary, as if he were much farther away and they were separated by a crowd. "Over here!"
