"I did, thank you." Her eyes opened and she folded her hands neatly on her lap. "I trust you did as well...Conrad?" It felt strange to call him Sir Weller, but it wasn't quite fair. "You may call Julia, if you wish."
"I wonder why that is." She stood and swiped bits of grass from her skirt with one hand, but kept the other with Conrad. Satisfied that her dress was as grass-free as it could be, she slipped her arm around his. "Let's go..." She closed her eyes and felt for the light breeze, then smiled and tugged his arm. "This way."
She started slowly but confidently down a small path that wound to the center of the garden, but stopped after several steps when her hand brushed up against an overgrown bush. The problem wasn't so much that the bush had not been trimmed back, but that she didn't remember there ever being a bush there.
