Is saying "Aren't you happy?" a proper sentance? Because since "aren't" means "are not", it's like saying "Are not you happy?"

It could be a proper sentence since the words are basically inverted; "The food I ate," for instance, would in my opinion be proper since it has a subject, a verb, and an object.
