For some reason, her hair was out if its usual pigtails, falling down and obscuring her face. The baseball cap didn't help things either.
"'Cause they're scared, I think," she said. "They think they're gonna get hurt, so they hurt other people first so the other people can't hurt them later."
James-Michael reflected on this as he ate his ice crea, giving it quite a bit of thought.
After a moment, he nodded, as if accepting the reality of it, turned to her, and said:
"That makes no sense whatsoever, Dian." Well, it didn't. "One would think preemptively attacking others for no reason would cause you to have more risk to your person. Eventually one of them is bound to fight back."
"Ahh," she said, gesturing with her spoon. "But then they've proved that other people will try to hurt them, so they have to keep fighting." She shrugged. "Either that, or people don't make sense. There's even a song about that one."
