US Govt. Tells Abenaki (again) that they aren't a "tribe".

OK, from where I sit, I'm repulsed at the image of a bunch of bureaucrats who represent the conquerors telling a group of people that they don't exist as a group. And the reasons?

Well, in the white universe I live in, the usual idea is "They just want to build a casino!"

No other possible reason. Of course. Not like, ummm, well, the right to try and keep one's children in the connumity? Like some sovereign rights? Nvrmnd.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. They want to build a casino, get rich and live off the government. Like, they have to want the recognition for some reason, right, and it can't be a good one.
