If you know my real name, please do not ever equate it with this journal (either of these journals) or username(s) in a public space. Please avoid even my real first name in relation to dreamwidth and livejournal; I'm Olivia on the internet. Please do not ever connect my DW or my LJ to facebook or twitter -- especially now that LJ, in its ( Read more... )

Got it, and same here. I'm unhappy about this too, because dammit, if I wanted to put all that stuff on Facebook, I'd just put all that stuff on Facebook.

And I could just never say anything in a locked forum because I presume all security will be broken eventually, but you know what? My mental health is better for having been able to LJ away under an internet name with a tight friends filter, in which I worked through some stuff. I'll live if that's taken away, but I sure won't be happy about it.

*sigh*

AGREED. Actually, I agree with everything in this comment. I mean, no security is ever absolute, and if somebody ever does out me to my professional community, well, honestly, I will defend transformative works from here to eternity. I just don't want it to always Be About That, you know? Of course you know. I value this community way, way too much to ever go into lock down or run away, just because no space is safe. But I also wish LJ would stop making it so easy to screw up.

Anyway. ♥

Yeah, I am getting really sick of facebook being everywhere. I actually do love what facebook does for me - enables me to easily keep in touch with people - but the website itself, urgh. Dan and I were saying the other night that eventually, competition WILL come along. If it's so darn easy to post stuff to facebook from other sources, I sure wish someone would create some kind of facebook mirror - where I could log into that site, do everything I normally do on facebook from it, but never have to actually interact with facebook itself and have to opt-in rather than opt-out of things that might compromise my privacy. Not sure if that is even possible but I'd actually PAY for it if it was.

I hate facebook -- like, honestly, exactly, I wish somebody would create a facebook clone that wasn't so full of evil shit -- but it is necessary to my social networking, and social networking is pretty necessary to, you know, my life. I wish I could ditch it, but I can't, and I'm kind of resigned to that. It's just -- ugh. LJ and facebook are NOT streams that need to cross.
