I am opposed to President Bush's plan to send additional troops to Iraq. Congress must act now to block funding of Bush's escalation of the war - and demand that the President provide a plan to leave Iraq.
I... disagree. I think we have a moral obligation to stick it out in Iraq. We shouldn't have gone in in the first place (well, really, we should have, but our original reason should have been that Saddam Hussein is a mass-murdering fuckhead who idolizes Joseph Stalin, and has engaged in a policy of ethnic cleansing and religious repression, NOT some silly, trumped-up WMD and terrorist excuse). However, now that we're in, we can't leave, otherwise Iraq will degenerate into a full-scale civil war (as opposed to the sort-of civil war it has now). We have a duty to at least try to sort out the ethnic strife that we created by toppling Hussein. I personally think we need to go cap-in-hand to the UN and say "Dear God, we screwed up, and yes, we know it. Could you please to help us stabilize Iraq? Thanks so much." At least Bolton's out of the Security Council, so maybe they won't hate us quite as much.
I agree with you, and I think heading to the UN with this the way you described is the correct path to take at this point. We fucked up real bad with this.
BUT the problem with this escalation is that it seems to be more of the same dressed up a little differently.
