Day 12: Whatever tickles my fancy.

Okay, as promised, let's talk holiday programming.

The essence of a good Christmas special or movie is simple: disillusionment, doubt, self-seclusion. I can think of a couple of counterexamples that I'll go into below, but in general this is true. Let's look at our lineup:

I think White Christmas fits this mold well. There's definite disillusionment by the characters at the beginning of the movie, but they all come together at the end for a performance and everybody feels the true meaning of Christmas (love).

You forgot the all-time best Christmas special--the Star Wars Holiday Special. You've got Bea Arthur as a singing bartender, a drunk off her ass Carrie Fisher, and an 85-hour long interlude with Wookies talking to each other with no subtitles.

If you do the whole illegally downloading movies thing, get the RIFFTRAX version of the Star Wars Special. It's the guys from Mystery Science Theater making fun of the special as you watch it. It's really the only way it's watchable. Much like the RIFFTRAX Twilight, which I watched earlier this week.

I have nothing but harsh words for those who can't enjoy the extended cheesefest that is this movie, or at least the part where Hugh Grant dances around like a moron.
