Last weekend, we did a little staycation at
Pan Pacific Singapore right in the heart of the city.
It was a wonderful treat for the long weekend, and the boys were so excited coz they love fancy hotel stays. They sure do know how to live it up ;)
We loved our spacious
Harbour Studio King Room which offered a panoramic view of the Singapore city skyline. Just PERFECT for the National Day rehearsal fireworks that were happening that night! WHEE!
The room was very lush and cozy. I was surprised by how new everything seemed, considering the hotel has been around for years. Even the husband who travels extensively for work said he was suitably impressed!
There was more than enough space for all of us with an extra pullout bed for Sean and a baby cot for Jo (Ryan slept between us on the big bed). As you can imagine, there was lots of jumping on the beds during our stay!
Right after checking in, we got changed and hit the pool.
Sean had *just* learnt how to swim without any aid - after two long years of swimming lessons, if I may add - and he was eagerly showing off his newfound swimming skills in the big pool.
There was no baby pool so I kept Ryan and Jo company at the shallower end of the pool while they splashed around in the water.
After that, we trooped back to the room to wash up and got ready to watch the NDP parade.
And how cool is the see-through bathroom in the room? The boys LOVED playing in the big tub - especially since we don't have one at home - and I appreciated that baby Jo could watch his brothers play in the bathroom right from his cot :)
From our 27th floor room, we had a beautiful vantage view of the Floating Platform and the ongoing National Day Parade rehearsals. The boys sat propped on the bar stools to watch the festivities.
We waved as the helicopters flew past the city with the Singapore flag. We gasped with awe as the fleet of inflatable boats zipped across the Singapore River and the F-15 fighter jets zoomed right above us. The boys (who are enamoured by soldiers and uniformed men now) were especially thrilled to see the Singapore Armed Forces and Singapore Police Force contingents (and the cool rifles they were carrying) do the march past in harmony.
The highlight of the evening was the stunning finale display of fireworks that lit up the Singapore sky. Even till today, if you asked Ryan about his weekend, he would tell you 'we saw fireworks in the sky. Blue! Green! White! Pink! FIREWORKS!!!'
That night, we had a lovely Japanese dinner at
Keyaki in the hotel. We were last there before the kids came along. Seemed a lifetime ago! The food was not cheap but it was every bit as exquisite as we remembered it to be. And we were pleasantly surprised when we got a generous 30% off our bill, an offer extended to all hotel guests!
We were all tired out from the long day and had a very good night's sleep in our luxurious bed. Zzz.
The next morning, we all slept in till 8am, kids included. Our first sleep-in in a loooong time!
We rolled out of bed and trooped downstairs to
Edge for breakfast.
We were spoiled silly with the huge spread of local and international cuisine - we tucked into nasi lemak, mee siam, roti prata, cream cheese bagels, squid ink buns, smoked salmon, sushi, dimsum, kueh tutus and washed everything down with refreshing cold-pressed juices. Yummeh!
Of course, we couldn't leave without one last dip in the pool and the tub. We lounged around for a bit watching telly in the room before checking out.
Quite expectedly, the boys threw a strop when we said we had to leave. They kept asking why we couldn't stay in the 'ho-teuw' (hotel) and make it our new home. Hmmmm.
We had a wonderful staycation - I too wish it had lasted much longer. Now we are now thinking of making it an annual National Day affair!
Thanks for a lovely time, Pan Pac! Till next year? ;)
