Wow there really is a lot of homework huh? And they start so young? So scary! Maybe you should get Ryan to do some 'homework' every now and then too, so that he gets used to the idea, and it won't be as tedious when it's his turn. ;)

Ryan likes to hang around so I usually give him paper to cut or some markers to scribble. That's about it! Maybe next year when he starts nursery...

We did start Sean on writing exercises since last year so I think the sudden increase in workload is not so much of a shock to him or us :)

This makes me a little worried (and kiasu !) that The Bun will have issues going back to the Singapore school system in a few years. There certainly isn't this level of work in school for him apart from some simple reading exercises and they are v relaxed. On one hand I'm happy he isn't being pressured and on the other hand I'm worried he isn't doing enough! Argh! (And Chinese is a whole other issue altogether!)

The workload sounds a lot but actually quite easy for their level and manageable still (actually, Sean tells me he knows how to do all of them already and maybe that's why he is not very motivated!). Maybe a good way to gauge is to flip through the K1/K2 assessment books in Popular when you are back. Such a kiasu thing to do at their level, right? But that was how I figured out where Sean stood amongst his peers ;)

It is also Sean's nature to be very spacey so I am doing a bit more on my part. My friend's tells me her daughter who is of the same age does exercises and assessment books on her own everyday - I just know Sean would never do that!

Ashley is also in K1 this year but there's no homework from school and I am not complaining. The same goes with my two older girls. They do have classes like swimming and Art and they enjoyed that a lot. I think it's good to just let kids be happy and do the things parents enjoyed too. Enjoy your time with them and sometime just a simple act/outing will make the day a special one for the kid.

Ah I was wondering if it was the norm for all kindergartens to give homework - so apparently not all do!

Right now, I am a bit reluctant to let him take on more enrichment classes (and even then, his schedule is already quite packed) coz I just want him to play and enjoy his childhood :)

You are a cool mum. And your girls are very independent and responsible! I have a feeling I may have to keep a close eye on Sean's work for a long time because he has his head in the clouds all the time!

I think Jo will be in for a rude shock next year when we return! I really have to sit next to her and keep prompting her to finish just one page of chinese words! And i only make her do that once-twice a week! Very hard to remain patient cos she'll find excuses to leave her seat to get something. Have you seen the chinese spelling sheets in some kindergartens? So difficult that maybe I can't remember how to write those words! But in terms of life skills and general knowledge, the schools here are good.
