Painting robots at heART Studio

Recently, Sean was lucky enough to win a complimentary June holiday workshop session of Painting Robots at the heART Studio.

Sean loves to doodle and paint at home so I have been quite keen to check out art schools and maybe sign Sean up for art lessons.

We had a nice little welcome at the heART Studio.

To start off, Teachers Syafiq and Elma helped the children put on aprons and gave a quick introduction to what they were going to be painting for the day (robots).

The children first painted the backgrounds of their blank canvasses in their favourite colours and learnt how to use hairdryers to dry the paint.

Next, they were given guidance on how to draw their own robots using basic shapes. Sean saw a picture of a cat-like robot with menacing eyes and decided he wanted to draw one just like that too. Okay, he had a bit of help from Teacher Elma. He then tried his hand and mixing his own paint and painted in his robot.

I really appreciated that the children received one-on-one attention from the teachers and the drawing/painting process was broken down into simple steps for them. The children were taught basic techniques like how to outline their drawings first so they could fill it up with paint neatly or how to cover up white patches with more layers of paint.

They had a short tea break afterwards where the hungry boys chowed down on cakes, Honey Stars and Milo. I was pleasantly surprised that food and drinks were provided.

They then carried on with the class, adding clay embellishments to their robots. They rolled, pinched and kneaded the clay bits into googly eyes, mouth, wires, buttons, gears and even roller wheels.

Finally, Sean signed his name proudly at the bottom of his canvas and ta-da, his Cat Robot masterpiece was done :)

Sean was quite shy and quiet at the beginning but soon warmed up and was running up and down the hallways with his newfound friend by the end of the class. We had a wonderful time, all thanks to the great teachers :)

If you are looking for something worthwhile to do for your little ones, you can check out their June holiday programs.

I am quite keen to sign Sean up for the Little Dali classes (for 3-4yo) next term. It looks like so much fun I wish they had lessons for adults too!

Big thanks to A Happy Mum and heART Studio for the opportunity!
