Shouldn't organic be the default?

Was thinking this morning, how I find it interesting that organic apples are called organic, even though they're just naturally occurring apples(at least more so than their counterparts), while chemically and genetically altered apples are just called apples.

Not to point out, yet again how you don't understand english... grimsooth September 23 2007, 13:40:38 UTC
Organic: 3 a (1): of, relating to, or derived from living organisms (2): of, relating to, yielding, or involving the use of food produced with the use of feed or fertilizer of plant or animal origin without employment of chemically formulated fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides

"chemically treated [apples]" as you say are actually refered to as: Conventional.

Where as genetically altered apples are, you guessed it, called by some trade name like "Suicide apples" or "Fatally Red Apples".

Also, organic apples arn't "naturally occurring apples" by any means, they are actually more cultivated than the others mentioned. If we're talking about naturally occuring being independantly occuring or occuring by purely natural processess, then organic apples are the most artificial as they require the most intervention and upkeep.

Look it up. Or don't, since I just told you. (How do I know this stuff?)
