I don't know who the character is, but does he come from an Asterix book?

I thought it was maybe a classy old charicature (sp?) of someone from a wacky comedy from the 60s set in Rome. That is to say I do not know.

I agree with Grug it's definitely from Asterix, and i think it's a caricature of René Goscinny himself (the writer of Astérix and many popular comics). Not sure which one it's from though…
