It had worked fine for several months, now won’t even turn on. Indicator light on the external card reader was on until I flipped the power switch on the back off-on, and now that’s off also. Not sure if there’s some internal reset.

I have to leave for a trip tomorrow morning ( Read more... )

Try unplugging from external power for 15s or so (the power button on the front does not completely cut power to the motherboard). Try disconnecting unnecessary external devices. There is a CMOS reset, but you'll lose your CMOS/BIOS configuration; on some computers this is a button on the back, otherwise it's a jumper you'll have to read about in the motherboard's manual.

1050W seems overkill to me. Do you have multiple CPUs? If not, you could probably make do with a smaller power supply. I've recently been doing some testing on this subject. I've found that my i7 system never draws more than 200W when doing the most CPU intensive tasks, and its 650W power supply is rather small by today's standards.

I have a large RAID in the computer (and another external RAID), hence the large power supply.

How is your RAID array configured? RAID0?

Unplug everything except the mouse, keyboard, and monitor. One time I had a powered usb hub go bad, and it was allowing enough power to backflow into the usb port, that it was preventing the mobo from accepting the 'turn on' signal from the main power switch.
