Why did the Israeli Lavi jet fighter not go into production?
The answer to this question is slightly more complex than what some might have suggested.

The Lavi made economic sense on a production run of 300 airplanes, as was originally intended. After Israel’s defense budget was slashed during the mid-1980s, however, the Israeli defense planners realized that they could only afford half as fighter jets as they had planned. On such a small production run, the Lavi was no longer cost competitive.
