Long day, can't sleep. I attempted making cookies. Set off the fire alarm. Want to help judge the potentially fatal outcome? You can rant to me about fashion if you want, though you may have to excuse my cluelessness.
some people int he fashion industry live in this weirdass high class bougie bubble where they think charging 3000 dollars for a pair of fucking sandles is a good idea, and their encouragerd because dumbass rich people buy it. they are so out of touch with what life is like for people who aren't rich that they really think a 700 dollar shirt is accessible to anyone.
moschino did some great stuff for target. i'm sad they left!
(jimmy choo is overrated >_>)
it's pretty cold out here, i think it's going ot be an early winter all over. a winter coat might be worth investing in.
Which is lazy, on their part, but I suppose they can afford it.
I like Moschino a lot, generally, so this was just like...excuse me? I honestly think in this case it's less outright ignorance and more catering to that wives and mistresses of bankers crowd that's pretending they're so financially troubled because their chauffeur is now part-time. Which is pretty insulting to people who have actually lost their jobs and homes. I might be white-knighting a little bit, I don't know.
(We're agreed on Jimmy Choo; more of a Louboutin girl.)
Maybe. I'll go hunting for things that aren't black peacoats.
no, it's fair. i think there should be a lot of criticism about this stuff, especially since there's no... real reason to charge like 10 grand for a dress that cost 200 dollars to make and isn't even couture.
i didn't know versace got murdered.
sonia rykiel has this great peacoat out (haha i know), but it's purple! i really like it. i wish i had 800 dollars to throw away on a coat. cute color no?
Pretty much. Like a lot of really major luxury industries it's based off them going "this is great, pay a ton of money for it" and people going "oh, well, if you say so." Sometimes - because I do like a lot of designer clothes - this is definitely reflected in the quality, how much the item cost, but sometimes...you know, not so much.
Yeah. A spree killer -- the guy murdered a bunch of people to get their cars or their stuff. When he killed himself they didn't find much by way of things that actually belonged to him personally, just a bunch of C.S. Lewis books, weirdly enough.
I do like peacoats, but in New England in fall and winter it is like a sea of everyone in long black coats--but I'm sure you know, isn't New York the same way? That one is cute, though, and I love the little frilly edge.
My thoughts on fashions and money would probably make as much sense to you as yours do to me; unfortunate, as from what I can tell I think we'd have much to discuss if our context overlapped.
Universally applicable, if I am going to pay these absurd sums of money for something - and I am willing to - then I will pay for quality and good taste, not a reputation. If it's a terrible cut, then it's a terrible cut.
But I don't think I can pretend that paying the travel expenses and an extra fee for convincing them to do it at all, on top of the expected costs, for the seamstresses I wanted for Candice to come to us in the mountains (as a surprise; I had also conceded to the suit nonsense and acquired myself a tailor in New York) was anything other than an obscene waste of money and time for a grand gesture.

Well, I will comment on this: I miss you. Already. Which is silly because sometimes we do go a few days without talking much, but I miss you on those days, too.
So I should take back that thousand-laurel handbag I found you? ;)
I kid, but I hope you'll forgive me not trying to convince you I can empathize with your frustrations here. I appreciate the hypocrisy enough not to add to it any more than is my usual habit.
In other news, I am more sick of flowers than I thought humanly possible. How are you?
It's not even the prices for me, personally, it's just like--the lack of self-awareness! Also it's bad business, which is the part that annoys me the most, I think.
Preparations going slowly? I'm all right, have a reasonably zen day ahead of me (knock on wood).
It's bad business if there isn't a market for it, yes. I suspect the fact that there is one here is partly my fault.
Slowly and yet far faster than I'd like. I was trying to be kind and participate more, but that may have been a mistake. Tell me about your zen plans, I live vicariously through other people's relaxation.
Well, mostly I mean it's turning off the Macy's-level market, which is I think more profitable than high fashion. Way more shoppers.
Ohhh, dear, can't you beg out on the basis of masculinity? And my day thus far: I had a client for a couple hours, then a very long bath, then lunch, then tea, then...nothing, presently.
