Thank you! "Dying for Fame" is my favorite episode. It's not the best -- that's LA, or FtB, or CB, or... -- but it is my favorite. You do very well with Rebecca's voice here, and I'm thrilled with the payoff in the thematic parallel of her wanting to confide her real identity, as Nick has confided in Natalie, and a few others over the years.

I enjoyed the references to Brabant and to Fleur, and to the curiosity that is distinctive of Fleur, but which also played its role in getting Nick to Wales, and then the Levant, and then Paris, and everything since. She's not the only cat curiosity nearly killed in that family!

>"but an undercover assignment cut it short with almost disastrous results.Great canon reference! I'm excited by this invocation of Nick's missed vacation in "Feeding the Beast," and the implication that he knew he needed it then, that the lack of it contributed to his loss of control (and perspective) in that episode. I now want to compare that missed FtB vacation to the one other mention of Nick and vacations I ( ... )

You're very welcome. Your prompt was wonderful. You did all the heavy lifting and gave me so much to work with. All I had to do was fill in the blanks. It can never be said that you're not generous when it comes to prompts. :-)

I'm quite fond of "Dying for Fame" myself but because I suck at episode titles it'll always be the "Fan Kill" episode for me. For that reason alone I had to sneak in a reference to the infamous song, lol.

>"It's kind of a strange place for a homicide detective, or have the bears been up to no good?""

As already mentioned, good Rebecca voice. Thank you for taking that on!

Rebecca was such a strong guest character and I too loved her voice.

>"The two of them shared a smile. Rebecca had a chance at freedom and it comforted Nick to know that second chances, while scarce, do present themselves from time to time."

The first time through, I thought this line was the big thematic payoff, recapitulating the heart of "Dying for Fame," and I liked that quite well.

I do think that a second chance is the big main payoff of the episode. It certainly parallels nicely with Nick's goal throughout the series.

What a beautiful story! I love the imagery here, and words seem to flow with a gentle sereness. It totally mirrors the change of pace that the change of location is supposed to bring Nick. I've not watched very much Forever Knight, but you bring the characters and the world alive for me.

Rebecca’s eyes were big and earnest. It felt like he was looking in a mirror. It was the desire to reach out and grab someone you could trust with your deepest secret and not have them recoil in shame or fear.

This was particularly poignant. Both have things to hide, but both want/need more. Nick's been able to share his secret, and hopefully Rebecca can too one day.

Really nicely done! ^_^

I'm so happy you enjoyed the story. I was on vacation in the mountains, my first time ever, and it was so beautiful that I simply had to try and capture some of the imagery for the story.

I hope you've enjoyed the episodes you've seen of FK. It's obscure and small but the more people that are aware of it, the happier I get. :-)

I enjoyed reading this very much. I'm always curious to read about Nick when he takes some private moments like this vacation.

I'm glad you liked it. :-)

Like brightknightie pointed out, season 1 Nick had lots of toys to keep himself occupied.

To help with Nick's quieter moments, I wondered how the Nick of the "Blind Faith" flashbacks would keep himself occupied before Raleigh came into the picture. Both were in the woods, as far from civilization as they could be.
