On the BBC show "its not easy being green" they built a 2 holer on a slope. The plan was to use only one hole for a year, then close and use the other side. After a year to age, the first side would be cleaned out (building on slope made it easier to access the poop pit to clean out) and that year old rotted poo could be used to fertilize firewood coppices.

Paul Wheaton has suggested putting it on skids so you can move from time to time and let things rot.
