Five years ago this past week Gujarat burned while its CM Modi played the fiddle, figuratively. In short, yes da, very different. If Rabin 'deserved' it so did Arafat. Let's not even get started on the whole Palestine issue, or on the Nobel Peace Prize, an institution that is rather meaningless - Henry Kissinger won the prize, sterling folk like Benito Mussolini, Adolf Hitler and Michael Jackson were nominated at different times..

The astonishing thing is that I've seen articles in the media mentioning Gujarat 2002 and then talking about how good Modi is for the economy. Pukesome.

Pukesome is about right, I would guess some of the media coverage probably stems from some strange ideas of "balanced" coverage.. sorry for the dated comment..
