Making sure that everything is working

We hiked the Upper Bristlecone Trail today, and followed the Bonanza Trail up to the top of the ridge that delimits the Pahrump Valley. It was easier than it's been. I suppose we're ready for our midsummer expedition. We'll do that in a couple of weeks, God willing.

I Googled it to bring up a map. Looks like pretty countryside! It's a mountain bike trail?

The Bristlecone trail is open to mountain bikes, and curiously enough, this was the first time we didn't meet any. (We met even more dogs than usual, though, and I conjectured a fairy that had changed all the mountain bikes into dogs.) Mountain bikes aren't allowed up on the ridge (the Bonanza trail and the secret connector trail that turns the route into a circle), and we've never met any up there. The lower part of the Bristlecone trail, which we avoid because it's so boring, is a gravel road built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Work was abandoned when the United States entered World War II.
