Death as Art?

Aug 15, 2008 10:17

I've, personally, never believed that there is anything worth glorifying in the death of a person. Romanticizing a person's former life aside, death has become an abstract term resembling anything but the actual occurrence itself. Mostly, I peg this claimed "desensitized" nature on the fact that people have chosen to reclaim the idea of death and ( Read more... )

I feel ya. I, really, have no words to the stupidity of the people involved.

What's next? A starving person chained to a wall, too?

Oh, no, the next step is someone having a public abortion.

But we've had that already, too.

(Google it!)

there was a girl at yale i think? who got herself pregnant over and over with a turkey baster in order to have a medical abortion each time. she made some kind of art piece with the aborted tissue/blood.

is that what you're talking about? man, that art piece was fucked as hell.

I was thinking about that, too, but I didn't link it or anything....

I know she was fairly heavily covered on Perez which is where I found out about her. Though I totally, 100%, agreed with one of her "speeches" about art itself, I could not imagine how someone could do the things she supposedly has done.

yeah. that dog story is disgusting. i remember when it was totally blowing up all of the AR blogs i read.

still though, what people need to keep in mind is that in Nicaragua dogs are like fleas. the strays are a real nuisance and all over the place. people think they're filthy vermin and equate them with rats.

....not to say a rat should be starved like this either.. but how many people think it's fine to exterminate pests? ....who sometimes die slowly and painfully. i mean, you can buy mousetraps anywhere....

I still have remnants of the beliefs of "normal" people that most animals die a "happy death" and just "go away".... You know what I'm talking about.

However, the actual -act- of allowing a dog to starve to death on public display is sick. It's beyond inhumane and more in the realm of cruel and unusual.

As beyond deplorable as I think this exhibit was, the circumstances of the dog's treatment are up in the air. I have read that the dog was tied up during gallery hours (still awful) but cared for during the off hours. He ended up escaping back onto the streets (yay, irresponsibility). Read more here:

It's also deplorable that none of the spectators apparently tried to liberate the dog.

Did you hear about a similar "art" exhibit that was put on in SF not long ago? It was quickly pulled due to protests:

How completely vile.
