We had a Republican mayor with the same last name, who insisted that "there are no homosexuals in the All-America City." ("The All-Amrerica City" was an appellation the Chamber of Commerce dreamed up for Columbus.)
We called hizzoner "Senseless-brenner," but I like both of Keith's versions better.
I KNOW, RIGHT? I used to think it was just a silly fixation of mine but I reread it recently and its message (simply, "IGNORANCE IS BAD") is still relevant today... perhaps even more than ever, given the shenanigans of the Tea Party, Fox News and their buddies in the GOP.
There is supposedly an audiobook version but for some reason it wasn't converted for Audible. So, if there is to be one, it'd have to be done fresh... and Keith ought to be the one to do it. It's pretty Thurber-like and he'd totally be able to run with the silly voices. OMG. If there was any hope of persuading him to try negotiating for the rights to read it on the show, even if they had to be posted as web exclusives like he's been doing for some of the longer Thurber pieces... >_>;;;
