Spike's reaction, Xander's reaction to Spike's, Willow's reaction to Xander's. I suddenly got an idea for an analysis paper to write about Buffy's dredged-up CPR abilities (trying to give life as opposed to her usual dealings with death). I definitely feel that I have spent too much time in English class, although I think the teacher would be pleased. I don't think I've seen that episode since it first aired, and I can remember lots and lots of tiny details, including what I think may be some exact dialogue.
Season 5 is the best part of Buffy, and the second half is pure gold, as befits the story arc that was originally supposed to end the series. The Body is intense -- Emma Caulfield, I love you -- but that level of intensity continues through most of the rest of the season. There are moments of domesticity, but they are quickly revealed as illusions. The Gift is the best ending to any TV show ever, never mind that it didn't actually end the TV show.
I just finished The Gift. I think I've sobbed through the last 2 disks (the penultimate disk has The Body as the first episode on it, and I went into it thinking it was spoiled since I'd made the mistake of watching a commentary that mentioned that it was sad when the mom died..... and, yeah, the most real episode of anything I've ever seen).
