I'm actually rather looking forward to the movie. I think J. J. Abrams was just the right kind of fresh blood that Star Trek needed after being stuck in a ditch for way too long, and it'll be nice to see a Star Trek movie with an actual nontrivial budget. That and the reviews from Aint It Cool News' recent screening were overwhelmingly positive, if that's worth anything.
But this spot is stupid. Hopefully it's just the marketing department trying to appeal to non-fans. Hopefully.
My problem is with the "Not your father's Star Trek" thing. As if old school Star Trek was boring, slow, uninteresting, and irrelevant, whereas this will be cool and sexy and kick-ass, with explosions! And more explosions! And that you can be assured that this movie won't require any of that pesky thinking that is so often required with real science fiction.
If the new movie is good, I think it can only be because they've used the good stuff about what Star Trek used to be (which, admittedly, was not everything), not because they've radically changed it.
