That's two years now in Ithaca. As per my apparent tradition (see
last year's), these are the books I've read since August 18, 2006, in no particular order:
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, by J. K. Rowling
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, by J. K. Rowling
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, by J. K. Rowling
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, by J. K. Rowling
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, by J. K. Rowling
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, by J. K. Rowling
- American Gods, by Neil Gaiman
- I am a Strange Loop, by Douglas Hofstadter
- Brainless: the Lies and Lunacy of Ann Coulter, by Joe Maguire
- The Shawshank Redemption: the Shooting Script, by Frank Darabont
- The Truth (with Jokes), by Al Franken
- Desperate Networks, by Bill Carter
- The Lord of the Rings, by J. R. R. Tolkien (reread)
- The Children of Húrin, by J. R. R. Tolkien (edited by Christopher Tolkien)
- The Golden Compass, by Philip Pullman
- The Subtle Knife, by Philip Pullman
- The Amber Spyglass, by Philip Pullman
- What Would MacGyver Do?: True Stories of Improvised Genius in Everyday Life, by Brendan Vaughan
- Old Man's War, by John Scalzi
- The Babylon 5 Scripts of J. Michael Straczynski, Volumes 9,10,11, by J. Michael Straczynski
- The Giver, by Lois Lowry
- The Color of Magic, by Terry Pratchett
- Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley
25 books. That's exactly same number as I read last year. This seems surprising, since I thought I was a lot busier this year. Maybe I just wasted less time this year.
Next up is The Making of Star Wars, by J. W. Rinzler, and then I think I want to read The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, by Michael Chabon, and then maybe Don't Panic by Neil Gaiman (Neil Gaiman wrote a book about Douglas Adams? Who knew?).
It occurs to me that I read essentially no fiction other than Science Fiction/Fantasy. This should perhaps be fixed. I'm tempted to ask for suggestions, but when I did that last year I never read most of the suggestions I got, so I worry that doing so again would be wasting your time.
