That is alright. We in the City all come from different points in time and different realities. It just so happens that I came from the Meiji era of Japan, and you, probably much further in the future. You are entitled to your surprise.

I learned the bases of modern medicine and surgery in rangaku, and much of what was established then is still true today. Of course, there have been much changes, particularly with regards to technology. But large parts of the bodies of knowledge involved in healthcare remain the same.
