She's a Lady (and so am I)

A/N Just as a backstory, Jessica has mentioned Olivia Hussey (who stars as Juliet in Zefirelli's Romeo and Juliet) as someone she looks up to. Originally filled here for kacts. Uh, yeah, wrote this half on a whim. Well, I wanted to read a fic about it instead of writing one lol, but it sort of just happened.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jessica’s sixteen when she realises that it’s not just that she wants to look up to Olivia Hussey and be the effortless classic beauty that she is, it’s more than that. She wants to have her, wants to run her hand over smooth porcelain skin and kiss a path from her perfectly arched brown to her soft lips. However, much to Jessica’s loss and frustration, she's born thirty years too late and not a boy as dashing as that Zac Efron look alike.

She spends her away her pocket money buying a video cassette of Romeo and Juliet and every other movie Olivia has starred in at the vintage store. Her parents tell her off late at night to go and sleep when they find her sitting in the middle of their lounge room floor staring at the TV, with a remote in her hand rewinding and playing all the scenes that the actress appears in. In the morning, she decides to take down the old posters of the boy bands she thought she was meant to like and replaces them with Olivia instead.

Jessica grows her hair long and starts wearing braids to school; the way Olivia Hussey had them as Juliet and takes up smoking for a while. Her friends think she’s going through a phase and Jessica hides her real interests well. They all assume Jessica is living her delusion as Olivia Hussey fawning over Leonard Whiting when it’s really not quite that, they’re close though. A part of her still wonders if that’s the case, whether if she really just in admiration of Olivia, but when she opens her locker and she sees a photo she had especially printed of the girl lying naked on white sheets with only long locks to cover her indecency (of course, Leonard is also in the picture, to cover up the gay), Jessica thinks differently.

Her friends are right about one thing and it does end up being a phase, but she goes through plenty more before she’s comfortable to say aloud that she appreciates femininity in all kinds of ways.

So, she concludes that she likes wearing dresses, skirts and nine inch heels; she likes having the versatility of tying her hair up and letting it down. She appreciates that she can go to the women’s bathroom to fix her make-up and reapply her lip gloss before she adjusts her bra. However, what Jessica discovers she likes more though, is peeling away a floral dress and removing her stilettos from her feet and kissing and nipping her way up along long silken legs. She likes that when she’s done, that she can make a woman sigh so delicately in between kisses and savours the foreign waxy taste of the lip gloss that’s most definitely not her own.

And in the morning after when she feels a warm soft body pressed to her own; Jessica will smile and for a split second will still be conflicted as to whether she’s finally lived out her sixteen year old dream and become Olivia or whether she’s found an Olivia for herself. But in the end she does away with the labels, deciding that thanks to Olivia, she gets to be Jessica, a lady who appreciates other women in many, many different ways and not just a dream or an idea conjured up by a silly tenth grader after watching a film in English Class.
