Well! This chapter was VERY MUCH WORTH THE WAIT, and an excellent birthday present! I loved it, all the little snippets of Dean remembering things, and the almost throwaway thought that he wanted Sam back because nothing was okay without him that was probably buried so deep he didn't even really register it. And Ruth showing him the picture was so sweet. Also, I totally thought they were going to Bobby's house, although them saying that the man was killed before the war probably should have tipped me off. But when they started talking about church and priest I had a major squee, because I love Pastor Jim even if he only shows up once in the actual show.
Dean still doesn’t know what kind of game his heavenly companion is playing. He only knows that every side wants to use him for something, and no side is willing to let him make his own decisions. So I just kind ( ... )

First of all: Happy Birthday! I hope you had a great day!
Yes, Jena's the psycho-chick from the beginning. She's actually pretty important.
And let me tell you, I am so happy you noticed the parallel between Dean's situation and Sam's, because I absolutley worded it like that on purpose and wondered if anyone would notice! What also played into it is that Dean himself has (maybe unconsciously) played a very controlling role in Sam's life, even though in his case it was (most of the time) to protect Sam. But he hardly ever (or make that never in this reality where the season 5 finale never happened) trusted Sam to make the right desicions on his own. The same goes for John. It weren't just the big forces.
Thank you for the awesome comment!

I read that little paragraph and my brain immediately shot into this giant tangent about how far it reached. This story is kind of really deep, as far as connecting experiences between Sam and Dean and drawing parallels and stuff like that (I feel like I could write a book on Castiel and how he could get from S5 to this story, and it would be awesome even if nobody cared about it =P) and this was just the first one that I remembered to write down when I had it instead of trying to remember after I finished the chapter =P
