Oh god. It was seriously one of the WORST things ever. For the first three films, Lavender was a POC. It was made VERY clear who she was. Suddenly, for 7 and 8, she was played by Jessie Camp, who is very MUCH Caucasian.

While its true that racism likely influenced that decision, the movies were tossed around between so many different directors, its likely that they just pilled random names from the books and assigned them to extras in the movie. then, not caring about consistency, when lavender became important, she was casted as white.
