[Spoiler (click to open)] So basically the Essex was a whaling ship that was attacked by a huge whale (which inspired Melville to write Moby Dick), but in the book it's only mentioned in a small passage. The rest of the book details how they were out in the ocean for 95 days and after all of the rationed food and water was gone, the crew began to die. About eight sailors were eaten and when they were found the majority of the crew had gone mad.

Can't wait for this, the book was so fascinating and chilling. Whaling was some fucked-up shit; I was kinda Team Whale for a lot of the story, ngl.
