Mte, it makes no sense to me. Like... why? To protect the molesters?

Statutes of limitations for any crime or lawsuit action are in place because of the difficulty of trying to deal with a case that happened too long ago. Evidence is lost or degraded, witnesses are no longer available and even for those that remain testimony is less reliable because of the passing of time. There's an element of wanting to deter people from filing false reports and using their age as an excuse for lack of evidence, but in general it's because after a certain amount of time you're so unlikely to meet standards of proof that there's little point.

Some SOLs are ridiculously short though.

Anyone who isn't a delusional stan knows he's a pedophile and he's dead now, so whats the point?

What kind of closure? It's not like it's a secret, the dude isn't alive, it's not like he's going so serve his time.

are you deliberately trying to sound obtuse, or...? not only this guy has to deal with the worldwide glorification of his abuser, but also now he won't even have the chance of getting something even vaguely resembling justice by having a judge declare MJ guilty. and that's not even mentioning the loss of a monetary compensation. also, you're wrong re: 'only hardcore stans defend him'. his image has been progressively sanitized since his death, and a lot of people are forgetting all his fucked up shit & only remembering ~pop icon!~. the absence of a trial will only cement it.

I thought it was a civil case so the time issue shouldn't be a factor?

civil cases have statute of limitations.

In this case I think it's because there was a window after MJ's death for creditors to make claims against the estate and Wade's suit was after that. it's still bullshit.
