When I saw Russel Brand vs Nigel Farage on question time I felt so bad for the people of Britain. 2 pompous windbags on one show?

I was annoyed on behalf of the three women who actually came there to debate and got overshadowed by these clowns.

The worst part is that he's not wrong about so much of what he's talking about, but it's obvious that he's such a narcissist and just loves the attention. And then "accidentally" slips in sexist language and joke apologizes for it. Loved Mary not letting him.

but oh shut the fuck up these idiots 'speaking for the working class'one of them saying that immigration causes tension in communities?? that literally translates to "i'm a racist and a xenophobe and i'm trying to justify it"

LOL she's probably a member of ONTD or something

Later on she interrupts another audience member who turns around and yells "SHUT UP! YOU ARE THE RUDEST PERSON I HAVE EVER MET!"

I think the person who was called "rude" was the blue-haired lady who kept yelling at UKIP supporters for being racist.

In some ways, Nigel Farage and Russell Brand are opposite sides of the same coin - they both use their reactionary brand of celebrity to bolster people's preconceptions, and exploit public disaffection with the status quo for their own personal gain.

But at least Russell Brand can't be actually elected to a position of power. And isn't, as far as I know, leading a gang of vile racists.

Yeah -- it was funny when some UKIP supporter demanded that Brand prove he's serious by running. What? So you can't have an opinion unless you want people to vote for you? That seems like a dangerous concept.

Plus, whether or not you agree with it, Brand's stance has been pretty consistent -- give me something to vote for, or re-structure democracy. He's under no illusions about the fact that he'd be a terrible candidate himself.

I respect that, but it is dangerous of him to encourage others to not vote.

What is vastly needed, IMO, is for more people to vote, and for younger people especially to get involved. At this point the UKIP voters are still the minority but they're also the most vocal, and I have no doubt that they'll turn out in swarms during the next General Election to vote. That's why other people really need to take a stance and stand up for their principles and values.

Yes, it totally sucks that democracy has dwindled down to 'vote just so we keep the greater of two or three evils out'. But it's still better than nothing. And when people hear 'don't vote', the real message that's getting through is not activism - it's apathy.

All three main parties need to look into how to make the information about their polices accessible and easy to find too no?
