Question for the American ontd'ersmagliJuly 24 2014, 21:36:31 UTC
Is the perception of this conflict changing somewhat in the US? I seem to remember that some years ago every American needs feed, including onto was very Israel-friendly, whereas it now seems to be a more balanced view. Am I just imagining things here, or is this true?

no the mainstream media is still very pro-israel. whats happening is you're prob getting more of your news/info from the internet which tends to provide a much broader range of viewpoints and ideas

Yeah, but I have always gotten my American news from the internet, so that was the same a few years ago as well. It just seems like compared to a few years ago, most American websites I go to have become more balanced. Mainstream media is one thing, but is there a change in perception amongst regular, young Americans?

I feel like in the past, especially after 9/11, there was a lot more willingness to turn a blind eye and say it was justified. This time around it's still hard to find a mainstream source that's really trying to give full dimension to the Palestinian perspective outside of Al-Jazeera, but with social media it's also been harder for people to ignore how many children and non-combatant residents of Gaza have been getting killed.
The US's perspective on the entire issue though is terribly fucked, we only care about Israel when there is conflict and are not at all invested as a country when actual diplomacy is going on. It's especially hard to find any coverage about the shift in the Israeli government and their motives etc. There's no nuance when it comes to understanding Israeli and Palestinian people versus their governments versus terrorist groups.

I normally don't care for Lupe Fiasco but honestly I have some respect for him now for doing that.
