I really don't get people's hard on for John Lennon. Sure he was part of an influential band but he was such a shitty person. Yet I swear he's always talked about like he's the second coming of Christ or some shit.

i think it has a lot to do with the way he died. if he were still alive, i don't think people would be so forgiving/understanding/sweep his past behavior under the rug as they do.

I could see Lennon being more scrutinized if he was living today in the way Michael Jackson was before he died, but then again Rick James' kidnapping and torturing a woman wasn't considered a big thing before he died so IDK.

yeah, i suppose it's hard to say what public reaction would've been to him, if he were around and kicking. especially, if he would've apologized for his past behavior, copped to how shitty he was and mellowed out in his older age.

Beyond all this other stuff we know about him, he wrote one of the rapiest lyrics in the Beatles' early career and I just can fucking not

I Saw Her Standing There

She was just seventeen/if you know what I mean

McCartney wanted it to be something about a prom queen but John had to get rapey with it

the original line was 'she was just seventeen, never been a beauty queen'. john didn't think it worked. i never would've guessed that's what you were talking about.

run for your life has a pretty good line. taken from lets play house by elvis. 'i'd rather see you dead little girl than to be with another man.'

then you've got getting better. a paul song, john contributed 'i use to be cruel to my woman and beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved. man i was mean, but i'm changing my scene and i'm doing the best that i can.'

i thought you were referring to one of those lyrics at first.

There is a billboard on the Pennsylvania turnpike about pro-fracking that has a picture of Yoko and says "Do you want to listen to the woman that broke up The Beatles?"

I rage every time I see it.

Great idea, since she and Sean really lack funds. [/sarcasm]
