This sounds kind of cool.
But SyFy channel.

Yes, SyFy channel.

They haven't cancelled Defiance yet (as far as I know), so, maybe they are in a period of benevolence where they are not cancelling all of their shows willy-nilly.

Since they are filming in South Africa the scenery should be at least nice/striking. You could barely see it in the trailer, but it looks sorta District 9-ish, in a way. Also, *points to my icon* (which was also filmed in SA).

Haven't seen the movie it's based on, so I don't know if this is a big change or is just a continuation of the movie premise/location. (I am not really excited about angels, so I dunno if I will check this out or not...just posting due to the cast, really.)

I wish angel shows would get Seraphs in more often, moody bastards. And go for the less Christian angle, possible.

If a US show can slap a biblical bent to something, they tend to go that way, unfortunately. There was a Bible-based miniseries on cable that got ridiculous numbers for basic cable not too long ago (not Walking Dead #s, but somewhere in that ballpark), so they may be thinking that they could possibly grab a bit of that audience. The SyFy channel's ratings are generally not great, so anything that could give them a boost, they are going to go for it.

Since Game of Thrones fans might not know Roxanne McKee by name alone, she played Dany's handmaiden Doreah who [Spoiler (click to open)]was locked in a vault in S2 with Xaro Xhoan Daxos by Dany - "Ducksauce" if you aren't up on character names, and is *presumably* dead, which is no surprise for GoT, lbr. She also was the recipient of Viserys' "sexposition" scene with extra-added dragon lore, and taught Dany how get her woman on top/missionary position on in S1. IT IS KNOWN.

Sounds interesting but I would care more if it were on another network. I don't really trust syfy channel. I always lose interest in their shows.

Well, the guy who wrote and directed the movie it's based on is an Exec producer, so it's a bit different from most SyFy shows. Sony has some involvement, too, not just NBCUniversal/Universal/whatever they are calling their producing/studio arm now, so I dunno.

Sony's involvement alone might not keep SyFy from dicking around with it, but since they film on another continent, they might be able to keep them a bit more at bay than they might with a show filmed in N America. No idea. I just try not to get attached to SyFy shows, b/c the network is The Worst when it comes to giving shows the shaft. Thankfully the shows I like that air on SyFy are co-Canadian productions, so they can't just cancel them outright.

Giles and Doreah deserve a *way* better network than SyFy, but hey, it's work, I guess?

Ha, true. But I've liked a couple of the recent SyFy original series, so maybe it'll be good. I really liked the first season of Defiance and I'm giving Helix a go.

Well, I mainly meant a network that wouldn't treat them like crap, ultimately. XD They have a looong line of cancelled shows in their wake.

I've been watching Helix, too. I think it's an official Canadian co-production with Showcase, so it's a bit more difficult for SyFy to put the cancellation hex on those shows, especially if they are doing well in Canada. Hooray for apparent Canadian law that requires a certain percentage of Canadian produced shows to air on all? networks! Huzzah! I've been liking their sci-fi shows especially, so hopefully Canadians will keep tuning in to help keep the shows alive. "Canada you are our only hope against SyFy."

I really wish another network would embrace science-fiction/fantasy programming fully, so SyFy can just air WWE and Ghost Hunters all of the time like they apparently want to. ;-P
