A boycott, especially a public, government sponsored one, would be extremely damaging not just for the US but her allies in Europe. Russia is the only supplier if gas to many countries in Europe. When Italy was behind on their payments Russia cut them off, in the middle of winter. You can imagine what damage they could do elsewhere. Plus they have so many US companies investing in their copper mines and their oil deposits; they basically have the monopoly on resources at the moment (alongside Australia and Canada). On top of that the Black Sea...they've got everything
