well no one expected it to beat man of steel but per screen averages suggests there's not really an audience for this movie, regardless if it went up against mos or not.
it's a period movie which yes historically does well in the uk. maybe the painters are not super well known (though i think most people have heard of alfred munnings) but it's the movie's job to make it appeal to viewers with its trailers and stuff. this movie just didn't do that and it's not about being up against man of steel, otherwise it would have a better per screen average. most period movies aren't about super well known historical characters anyway.
