LOTR Where Are They Now? - part I : the Fellowship

May 11, 2009 07:38

I've seen a lot of comments along the lines of "too bad ONTD wasn't around when the LOTR movies were released" and "we need more Viggo posts". As it happens, this autumn marks the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the principal photography of LOTR, so I think it's a good time to look at what's been going on in the lives of some of the cast and crew.
If the mods approve this one and you guys like it, I'll do parts two and three with other cast & crew members later. But for now, here are THE NINE.

Elijah Wood

Elijah played the part of Frodo Baggins. Since the trilogy, Lij has appeared in a variety of very different roles in films including Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sin City, Everything Is Illuminated and Bobby. He has also done voice work for a couple of The Legend of Spyro games as well as being the voice of Mumble in Happy Feet. His next roles include young Iggy Pop in the biopic The Passenger and the voice of 9 in the animated feature film 9.
In 2005 Elijah started his own record label called Simian Records. The label has signed contracts with The Apples in Stereo and Heloise and the Savoir Faire. He has been dating dancer Pamela Racine since 2005.

Sean Astin

Sean A has been very busy since his role as Frodo's loyal gardener Samwise Gamgee. His roles since the trilogy include Lynn McGill in 24, Twoflower in The Colour of Magic and Doug Whitmore in 50 First Dates. He will next appear in Stay Cool alongside Winona Ryder, Hilary Duff, Josh Holloway and Frances Conroy.

Sean's book There and Back Again: An Actor’s Tale (2004, ISBN 0-312-33146-0 co-written by Joe Layden) about his experience in being part of the LOTR trilogy caused a bit of stir because of his trademark honesty in saying what he thinks. Sean has three daughters with his wife Chistine Harrell: Alexandra (born 1996), Elizabeth (born 2002), and Isabella (born 2005). Alexandra is the kid who played Elanor Gamgee in ROTK.

Billy Boyd

Billy Boyd who played the hobbit Pippin has since appeared in such films as On a Clear Day, The Flying Scotsman, Save Angel Hope and Stone of Destiny. He has also done some theatre work. He is set to appear next in Glenn and The Best Years.

Billy has a son Jack (born 2006) with Ali McKinnon. Billy is the lead singer and co-songwriter in the band Beecake. They have released some music through their myspace as well as an EP and their first album should be available later this year. The group (Boyd plus John Crawford, Billy Johnston and Rick Martin) has played together "just for fun" for 20 years as Foreign Country. A few years ago they decided to start doing music more seriously. The inspiration for their new name came from Dominic Monaghan who sent Billy an MMS of a cake with bees on it during a trip in Spain.

He has also appeared in I Sell the Dead, Shooting Livien and X-Men Origins: Wolverine and narrated Ringers: Lord of the Fans, a documentary about the LOTR fandom. He is set to appear in Pet. Dom has been very discreet about his private life, but has had a relationship with former Lost co-star Evangeline Lilly. It's unclear whether the two are still together.

He has 2 children, Ben and Tom with Suzanne Wilkinson. They were married in 1966 and separed in the 1980s but never divorced. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1995 and he remains close to her. JRD has lived with television host Lisa Manning since 2004. They have a daughter, Maia. JRD is the only member of the Fellowship who doesn't have the "nine" tattoo - instead his stunt double Brett Beattie has it.

Bean married actress Georgina Sutcliffe in February 2008. This is his fourth marriage. He has two daughters, Lorna and Molly, from his second marriage and one, Evie Natasha, from his third one. He seems to do A LOT of roles where his character dies.
