James Franco Joins Your Highness
If you’ve been wondering what David Gordon Green might do to follow up last year’s Pineapple Express and the three episodes of Eastbound & Down that he directed, it looks like he is planning to stay within the realm of comedy for at least a little while longer. This week we have a bit of an update on his next film, Your Highness, which was first announced last May. Apparently it is another stoner comedy, but this time instead of mashing it up with the action genre, they’re going full on fantasy. I guess that reference to Krull in Pineapple Express was no coincidence!
Danny McBride will play an “arrogant, lazy prince who must complete a quest to save his father’s kingdom”, and we have also learned that James Franco is attached to co-star, although his exact role has yet to be revealed. What has me even more excited, however, is the fact that they have recruited Spectral Motion (Hellboy II, Pan’s Labyrinth) to provide the creature effects. That’s right, this movie has creature effects! According to Harry Knowles, McBride’s character has a “legendary encounter with an amorous Minotaur”, among other things. I will admit that I was a bit disappointed with Pineapple Express, but knowing how much David Gordon Green loves genre films, I seriously cannot wait to see what he comes up with here. Your Highness is expected to start shooting in Ireland soon; we’ll definitely have more on this exciting project as it develops.
