Depeche Mode has revealed the dates and cities for the North American leg of its "Tour of the Universe."
The international jaunt, which supports the British synthpop pioneers' forthcoming album, kicks off in Tel Aviv, Israel, May 10 and treks through European stadiums into mid-July. The outing descends upon North America shortly thereafter, starting July 24-25 in Toronto and Montreal, and then crossing over to the US for an 18-city run of major markets, including a two-night stand in Los Angeles. The schedule, minus yet-to-be-announced venues, is included below. Tickets for select markets go on sale beginning March 13.
Depeche Mode's 12th studio effort, "Sounds of the Universe," is due in the US April 21. The release marks a reunion between the band and producer Ben Hillier (Blur, Doves), who helped the members conjure up the album's retro-futuristic sound. The lead single, "Wrong," will hit the radio following its world premiere at tomorrow's (2/21) Echo Awards in Germany.
In addition to a standard CD format, "Sounds of the Universe" will be offered up as a double-vinyl LP, a special-edition CD/DVD and a deluxe box set with a host of exclusive material. The DVD will feature a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of the album, a band interview with archive footage and live recordings from the studio, among other things.
As with Depeche Mode's latest studio set, 2005's "Playing The Angel," the new material gives writing credit to both Martin Gore, the group's primary songwriter, and frontman Dave Gahan, who, after honing his talents on two solo albums, has earned his place as the band's second writer.
All of Depeche Mode's 11 studio albums have reached the Top 10 in 20-plus countries around the world, including the US, according to a press release. All together, the band has sold more than 75 million units worldwide.
