Today we have cancelled all of our Grammy-related events, including the Artist Showcase and After-Grammy Party and will redirect the resources that would have been used for those events to assist those affected by the wildfires. pic.twitter.com/nwsgJbGwuw

I did not expect this but I’m here for it.

Yeah I was surprised to see that the show is still scheduled to go on Feb. 2!

If they had tried to reschedule there were no other Sundays in February available and both Billie and Sabrina who they probably want to show up are going back on tour.

I think this is the right move - a toned down event that will still help stimulate the local economy especially when a lot of people in LA need money right about now, but with the purpose of helping the victims of the wildfires.

What have they said about the toned-down event?

All they’ve said so far is that it’s proceeding as planned but with a renewed sense of purpose to fundraise for wildfire relief and to honor first responders, so I don’t know what exactly it’s going to look like but I assume the tone will be more somber and other labels not just Universal are going to end up canceling pre and post events.

Honestly they should hold like a televised charity concert with their artists, with all proceeds going to wildfire relief

Totally get why they are doing this, and I don't object, but I do feel for the workers who would usually be employed by all of these events that are being cancelled.

While the loss of red carpet moments seems a superficial concern in a time of tragedy, the hard truth is that every one of those events means a day or more of lost pay for Hollywood’s gig workers, from security guards to caterers to florists to servers. https://t.co/3h0164ouhV

Yeah, I was just thinking about how covid, then the strikes, and now the fires.... that's a lot of people out of work in/adjascent to the entertainment industry for long stretches of time. And with the changes with streaming and I'm sure with AI (my sister and BIL's biggest fear, given the animation industry isn't doing too hot already)... it's all so fucking BLEAK.

Yep. It's been pretty brutal here. Everyone's motto had been "hang on til 2025", but things have uhhhhh..... not gotten better, to put it mildly.

I’m so bummed whenever I’m in Westwood and I see the theaters closed, and I’ve read that lack of/change in premiers since Covid contributed to that.

I know some people have said they should cancel this year's award shows, but there's also the argument that a lot of people depend on award shows for employment and income.

But I wonder if celebs are maybe hesitant about showing up for a blitzy red carpet (and the pre- and after parties) with what's going on, in terms of them looking out of touch and it harming their reputations?

That being said, there's been some sort of major news story going on for the past few years and they usually don't mind showing up. But maybe this year because it's in the same city - and some of them have been directly affected - it feels different to them? idk

I said in a previous post if they turned it into a "night of giving" and still honored the work that so many people contributed to, while also raising/donating instead of giving out lavish gift bags and stuff it would be incredible and I don't think people would be mad and people could still have their moment. We had awards during covid, people just did it at home didn't they?

Yeah, something like this. And instead of big after parties for the celebs, turn the parties a celebration for first responders, victims, and aid workers?

Yeah exactly, a lot of it could be converted, and yeah I'm sure a lot of people are feeling some kind of way and don't want to attend and I wouldn't fault anyone for that. Some people may want a distraction too. Idk.
