This is a good move and I'm glad he's taking that step. Personally, I wish it would have been all 40 since I oppose the death penalty but I understand why those 3 were exceptions. Trump is absolutely going to start up federal executions again, so commuting the sentences of most federal death row inmates was a necessary step.

IA with you on wishing Biden commuted all 40. I totally understand wanting to signal that hate crimes are especially bad, but I don't think the death penalty accomplishes that.

My feelings exactly. Those three are abhorrent but I don't believe in the death penalty for anyone, even those three.

Trumpies are probably pro Roof and Bowers. They might get commuted too now in retribution.

I’m glad he listened to the folks who were pushing for this. The death penalty is inhumane, full stop.

I was wondering who the three were that he didn't commute and ...yeah, commuting those three would have been political suicide, even for a lame duck president.

Also, the amount of people who are thinking this means that the other 37 are free to go....smh.

I have such vivid memories of the aftermath, specifically the manhunt, probably because of how involved the public was in posting pictures and information on Twitter.
