I saw the clip of Brady complaining about runtime criticism and how come no one complains about the 3hr runtime about adults in tights (superhero movies).

And it’s like idc your movies have pacing issues and are not popcorn flicks.

I haven’t seen the brutalist which has a 3h35m runtime but I did see Anora which was a solid film but that movie drags in the middle which was pretty unnecessary. I usually feel that directors that seem to have an aversion to editing to be self-indulgence instead of having self-restraint.

I haven’t seen any of Brady’s movies yet, but I think people complain about runtime before even sitting down to watch a film. I don’t think a movie needs to be a popcorn flick to have a long runtime. I love long dramas and thrillers. Any type of movie can have pacing issues. I think their real complaint is directed at studios though, because studios are willing to fund 3 hour movies for superhero/IP driven movies, but the funding for indie movies are often conditioned on them having a certain runtime. I thought Anora could be shorter too but I still was engaged beginning to end.

He specifically chose to mention superhero films so that’s on him but I do popcorn flicks are easier to digest cause we’re not really here to analyze it and digest the way we will for a lot of these Oscar-bait films.

Anora was good but the middle is where I started feeling the runtime. I saw it a second time and I still felt that runtime. He could’ve shaved off a good 15-20 minutes anywhere in first or second half.

Yeah, honestly my biggest issue with the middle was that it got a bit repetitive. It picks back up in the courtroom scene though, which was hilarious and probably my favorite scene lol. The comedic timing was on point there

Did Almodovar ever explain why he signed the Polanski petition

I get Brady, but I’m not tryna be in the theater for a half shift for any movie.

I'm going to try to watch Anora but I didn't like Florida Project or Red Rocket.

I was iffy on red rocket, too but liked this. Mikey is really great in it and I think it’s a lot funnier and has a better story. It’s definitely his most accessible or commercial for lack of a better word.
