I forgot that this place can be really weird when it comes to adoption.

Quite frankly, I'm kind of shocked at some of the assumptions people are making here, like adopted kids are consolation prizes and that parents will always care for their biological children more. It's really shitty, and doesn't even apply in this case because they had the bio children first and then made a conscious decision to adopt!

Yeah, I’m currently at a family party and I can literally see multiple adopted family members. Adoption has always been a regular thing to me. I’m not saying it’s perfect or it works out for everyone, but so many people here are negative about it and act like adoptees will always be screwed up. It’s a cruel thing to say.

Something similar happened to a coworker. He and his wife thought they were unable to have children so they went through the adoption process, which took quite a while. A few months after they adopted their son, his wife found out she was pregnant. They were genuinely shocked because they thought they weren't able to.

You hear stuff like this fairly often, or maybe just the people who tried to have biological kids and then adopted and then got pregnant just talk about it more often? Either way I wonder if anyone has figured out why it seems to happen, because people will legit try everything for years including expensive fertility treatment and nothing and then they adopt and get pregnant. Like what is going on biologically. I feel for women going through infertility too bc from what I seem to gather hearing stories like this can be tough bc then everyone around them is always going "see, it can always happen, you just need to relax and not worry about it and it will happen!" and the toxic positivity can be excruciating.

i think maybe stress influences our fertility in weird ways doctors can't predict.
