Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland's resignation letter.

Did cancelling your Disney+ subscription not balance the books quite like you'd hoped? Are you also one of those selfish people who wants a roof over their head and four walls to go with it? Well, if so you're in good company. Turns out things aren't so rosy for our politicans, either.

As of this morning, two of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Cabinet ministers, Housing Minister Sean Fraser and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, have made like rats from a sinking ship and fled their Cabinet posts. Fraser will not be seeking re-election. Freeland, meanwhile, seems to think she still has a future in politics (in fairness to her, Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre has set the bar quite low) and will be sticking around to duke it out next election as a sitting Liberal MP.

Freeland's resignation is particularly notable as she was expected to deliver the government's fall economic update later today. The update was expected to be a shitshow. The Liberals finally checked the polls and, with the next election required to take place on or before October 20, 2025 (the scheduling of which is its own can of worms), have been busy throwing money and a tax holiday at voters in a last ditch attempt to buy back support. This weekend, news broke that Freeland would be expected to walk back the $250 cheques promised to most (but not all) Canadians in today's update; in her resignation letter, Freeland disclosed that Trudeau had asked her on Friday to step down as Finance Minister and switch to another unnamed Cabinet position. Freeland instead chose to step down entirely and will serve out the rest of her term and run for re-election as a regular member of the Liberal party.

No word yet as to which clowns will be taking over for these two, or who we can expect to break the news Freeland was supposed to deliver: that our economy is in disastrous shape and will only get worse once Trump (and then, inevitably, Poilievre) gets in.

Mods, I hope this is okay! We've had a bunch of American political posts, and these announcements are a pretty big deal. I also can't find any Canadian celebrities still on Twitter who have said anything about it.

Are you feeling the vibecession, Canadian!ONTD?
