Its so hard to lose people so close together but it seems to happen often, especially for those that have been together for so long. My great grandparents were married 70 years and passed less than a month apart.

My husband's grandparents passed within a month or two of each other. They both knew it was time (his grandpa almost made it to 100. It was like 99.5 or something.)

I didn't know them well but they were lovely people. They passed around this time of the year too.

My husband's grandparents both died within a very short timeframe. It's been a while so I don't recall the exact length of time that passed, but I saw the way they were together. They were a very sweet couple. When her health began to decline and she wasn't as communicative, he still talked to her like they were having normal conversations. He really adored her. She died first and although he did have some health issues, I think he truly just missed her so much that he was ready to go.

yeah, same...my great grandfather went first, and my great grandmother three weeks later. i don't even know if it was a particularly loving marriage (there are whispers in the family that he was violent) but i suppose when you've been with someone for so long, being without them is too much of a shock to cope with, especially when you're already frail.
